Jack-O-Lantern Magic: Fun Ideas for Disney Themed Pumpkins
It’s pumpkin carving season. So many pumpkins, so little time! If you’re looking for fun and simple ideas to add a little jack-o’-lantern magic to your holiday this year, you’re in the right place.
Disney offers tons of inspiration to turn your ordinary pumpkins into magical works of art. You can choose classic Mickey to modern Moana or anything in between. Maybe you want a pumpkin to match your family’s Halloween costumes this year. Or maybe you want to celebrate your child’s favorite film. Perhaps you want a design that can double as a decoration for a Halloween birthday party. Whatever the case, this post is filled with quick and easy ideas to make your Halloween more magical.
Got your pumpkin cleaned and ready? Here we go:
Mickey and Friends
Mickey Mouse and his faithful friends are a great source of inspiration for magical jack-o’-lanterns. What better way to welcome trick-or-treaters to your front door?
You can create Mickey’s welcoming face, like the ones used at Disney World (ears optional!)…
…or add a little magic with one (or more!) or Mickey’s loyal pals. This short white pumpkin was perfect for Donald. A tall, skinny one would work great for Goofy.
If you want to stick to simpler designs…
consider making a design out of Mickey’s classic head shape or recreate this sweet Mickey and Minnie silhouette. You could even add a monogram or a date (Disney World trip? Anniversary? Birthdate?) to make it extra special.

Classic Disney
The classic Disney films also offer endless ideas for fabulous pumpkins.
You could create the silhouette of a flying Mary Poppins…
or transform a pumpkin into the magical Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.
You could make Alice or the White Rabbit to join him, or maybe a pumpkin full of heart-shapes to represent the harder-to-carve Queen.
Another fun idea is this silhouette of Tinker Bell from Peter Pan.
Or this scene of Peter and the Darling family flying to Neverland. (Covered in a separate post.)
If the Hundred Acre Wood is more your scene, any of the Winnie the Pooh characters would make awesome pumpkins too!
Star Wars
Another great source for Disney themed pumpkins is Star Wars. This hugely popular franchise is full of interesting characters and easy to carve symbols to light up your front porch like a galaxy far, far away.
Last year I created Kylo Ren and a Storm Trooper to complement my family’s costumes. Both are fairly easy to carve without a pattern.
It’s no surprise they look better at night, because, you know, they’re from the dark side (sorry!)
Boba Fett or the Rebel Alliance/Resistance symbol are pretty easy ideas too. If you want to go Star Wars-crazy, try carving the Death Star or a series of AT-AT walkers. Here’s a link to more Star Wars-themed ideas. May the Force be with you!
Nightmare Before Christmas
Another fun, and slightly more obvious choice for Disney themed pumpkins is the Nightmare Before Christmas.
This is Jack Skellington from a few years ago. He’s easy to carve without a pattern. He may even pass for a standard jack-o’-lantern for those unfamiliar with the film. (Wait, what?)
Or you can skip carving all together and draw Jack’s face on a white pumpkin for a super easy design. You could also draw (or glue) a patchwork design to represent Sally.
Other fun and fairly simple ideas for pumpkins inspired by the Nightmare Before Christmas include Oogie Boogey or Zero.
Disney Princesses
Turning a pumpkin into Cinderella’s carriage may be over my skill level, but there are tons of other achievable ideas for Disney princess-inspired pumpkins.
You can try to create the princesses themselves, like this example of Ariel from Disney Family’s website.
Or stick to easier to carve shapes. You could make an apple or a wishing well to represent Snow White or try this castle design for Cinderella.
I’m not sure if Moana officially qualifies as a princess yet, but her symbol would make a super cool pumpkin too. Or maybe you could try to make some of those cute, but fierce coconut pirates? (Kokamora!)
See what I mean? There are so many great ideas for magical Disney themed pumpkins. I hope this post inspired you to have fun with your designs and try something new.
