May the Fourth Be With You and These Future Star Wars Dates Too

May the Fourth has exploded into a Star Wars holiday of sorts. It’s silly and so much fun. May the force be with you today. May it also be with you as you wait for all these future Star Wars dates.

Here’s a list of what’s headed our way from a galaxy far, far away:

Lightsabers Hollywood Studios

2017

December 15 – Episode VIII: The Last Jedi: The next installment in the franchise is reported to pick up exactly where Episode VII ended, with Rey handing Luke Skywalker his lightsaber. Check out the intriguing teaser trailer.

2018

May 25 – Han Solo (specific title unknown): This stand-alone film will star Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover as Han Solo and Lando Calrissian respectively. Most of the plot is under wraps of course, but according to Disney it will cover how Han Solo received his name, met his furry friend and acquired a “certain vehicle.”

2019

May 24 – Star Wars Episode IX : The next (final?) installment in the Star Wars saga. Rather than release the film in December like Episodes VII and VIII, Disney recently announced it will pull Episode IX forward to May. Other details are still under lockdown.

Also in 2019, Disney plans to open Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland. Both projects are described as the largest land expansions in the parks’ histories. I’ve included a link to the latest video from Disney Parks that shows a flyover of concept. (Please, please let it look like this!) There’s also a video by Inside the Magic that includes an interview with the individuals working on Star Wars Land (can you say “dream job?”).

March of the First Order

2020

Disney has confirmed there will be additional Star Wars films in 2020 and beyond, but it won’t commit to the details. Rumors include new movies focusing on Boba Fett, Obi-Wan or even Yoda. With the amount of Star Wars fans in the world and the amount of money Disney is making on this franchise, you can bet there will be plenty of Star Wars in one form or another for years to come.

Until then, I hope this list and the previous seven films are enough to hold you over.

Add a little magic to your May the Fourth!
